Stevenson was born on Nov. 13, 1850, in Edinburgh, the son of an engineer, and studied engineering and then law at the University of Edinburgh. Throughout his childhood, he suffered chronic health problems that confined him to bed. Growing up an only child, Stevenson's early choices were dictated by his father's wishes and by his own poor health (he was a life-long "consumptive" as they said in those days). The family business was designing and building lighthouses, but young Stevenson couldn't bear the thought and initially compromised with his father by studying law instead.

However, Robert was at heart a romantic, and while ostensibly working towards a science degree, he spent much of his time studying French Literature, Scottish history, and the works of Darwin and Spencer. When he confided to his father that he did not want to become an engineer and instead wished to pursue writing, his father was quite upset. They settled on a compromise, where Robert would study for the Bar exam and if his literary ambitions failed, he would have a respectable profession to fall back on.

In order to fully comprehend the world in which Stevenson was raised, it is necessary to understand that there were two Edinburghs, both of which helped mold his personality and life outlook. On the one hand, there was the respectable, conventional, deeply religious, and polite New Town. On the other hand was a much more bohemian Edinburgh, with brothels, shady characters and underhanded dealings. The juxtaposition of these starkly different parts of town made a deep impression on Stevenson and strengthened his fascination with the duality of human nature, later providing the theme for The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

In the fall of 1873, Stevenson fell ill, suffering from nervous exhaustion and a severe chest condition. His doctor ordered him to take an extended period of rest abroad. For the next six months, he convalesced in the South of France, and worked on essays. On his return to Edinburgh, he spent much of his time writing book reviews and articles and experimenting with short stories. Slowly but surely, he earned a name for himself in journalism and his pieces began appearing in distinguished journals such as The Fortnightly Review. While establishing his name as a writer, Stevenson met an American married woman, Fanny Vandergrift Osbourne, who was ten years his senior. Osbourne had traveled to Europe in an attempt to escape her estranged husband's influence. For three years, Stevenson, who was still in ill health, continued his relationship with her and eventually followed her to San Francisco, where she divorced her husband and married Stevenson in May 1880.

In 1878, Stevenson published An Inland Voyage, which recounts a canoeing holiday in Belgium. In August 1880, the Stevensons returned to England. He and his wife wintered in the South of France and lived in England from 1880-1887, a period of time was marked by great literary achievement. Stevenson's first novel, Treasure Island, was published in 1883, followed by The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1886) and Kidnapped (1886). Stevenson's work was highly popular and he received great critical acclaim.

Upon his father's death in 1887, Stevenson chose to leave England and sailed for America, where he stayed for a year. In May 1888, accompanied by his wife, stepson, and mother, he set sail for the South Seas. Stevenson grew so enchanted by the life of the South Seas that in December 1889 he bought an estate in Apia, Samoa, convinced that he could never again endure the harsh winters of his native Scotland or England. Apia was a perfect location because the climate was tropical but not wild, the people were friendly and hard working, and there was good postal service in the country.

Stevenson lived at his 300-acre estate, Vailima, in the hills of Apia until his death in 1894. While in Vailima, Stevenson wrote a great deal, completing two of his finest novellas, "The Beach of Falesa" and "The Ebb Tide", two novels, The Wrecker and Catriona, the short stories "The Bottle Imp," "The Isle of voices," and "The Waif Woman." He also published short works under the title Fables. Stevenson left a significant amount of work unfinished, including St. Ives, The Young Chevalier, Heathercat, and Weir of Hermiston, which he worked on enthusiastically until the day of his death. On December 3, 1894 he dictated another installment of the novel, seemed in excellent spirits, and was speaking with his wife in the evening when he felt a violent pain in his head and lost consciousness. Stevenson had suffered a brain hemorrhage and died a few hours later at the age of forty-four.

X-Ray?
X-rays are a form of electromagnetic radiation, just like visible light. In a health care setting, a machines sends are individual x-ray particles, called photons. These particles pass through the body. A computer or special film is used to record the images that are created.

Discovered by...
X-rays were first observed and documented in 1895 by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen, a German scientist who found them quite by accident when experimenting with electron beams in a gas discharge tube.

Roentgen noticed that a fluorescent screen in his lab started to glow when the electron beam was turned on. This response in itself wasn't so surprising -- fluorescent material normally glows in reaction to electromagnetic radiation -- but Roentgen's tube was surrounded by heavy black cardboard. Roentgen assumed this would have blocked most of the radiation.

He placed various objects between the tube and the screen, and the screen still glowed. A week later, he took an X-ray photograph of his wife's hand which clearly revealed her wedding ring and her bones. The photograph electrified the general public and aroused great scientific interest in the new form of radiation. Roentgen called it "X" to indicate it was an unknown type of radiation. The name stuck, although (over Roentgen's objections), many of his colleagues suggested calling them Roentgen rays. They are still occasionally referred to as Roentgen rays in German-speaking countries.

Roentgen's remarkable discovery precipitated one of the most important medical advancements in human history. X-ray technology lets doctors see straight through human tissue to examine broken bones, cavities and swallowed objects with extraordinary ease. Modified X-ray procedures can be used to examine softer tissue, such as the lungs, blood vessels or the intestines.

Hummm...
Structures that are dense (such as bone) will block most of the x-ray particles, and will appear white. Metal and contrast media (special dye used to highlight areas of the body) will also appear white. Structures containing air will be black, and muscle, fat, and fluid will appear as shades of gray.

For most conventional x-rays, the risk of cancer or defects due to damaged ovarian cells or sperm cells is very low. Most experts feel that this low risk is largely outweighed by the benefits of information gained from appropriate imaging. X-rays are monitored and regulated to provide the minimum amount of radiation exposure needed to produce the image.

Young children and fetuses are more sensitive to the risks of x-rays. Women should tell health care providers if they think they are pregnant.

Ciaossu!!!

I already lost my interest with blogger. Yeah, lately I get this feeling that all of this internet-fetish need to stop. (kidding...there's ABSOLUTELY noway I can stop my internet).

Do you still remember Persona 3? (or maybe you have no idea what is it). I have the fan book and just finished reading it last night. I tried to play Persona 3 Portable but then my PSP broke down (friggin ----!!!)

Btw...in P3P we can choose the gender of our character (boy or girl) but if you already played P3 on PS2 before, I recommend you to play as a girl. Because to boy side is no different from PS2 version. On the other hand, the girl side have a few new features like new social links, new events, and of course (my favorite) the different Elizabeth!! (???). You don't understand? Just play it!!

So, This software of system optimizer have many function. But I guess the most useful of function DSO for me is it will help me to avoid system crashes and slow down (My computer "illness" was system crashed >.<). At first, my friends was really confuse about DSO (seriously?). Then she decided to try it. I haven't heard the news about her and her comment about DSO. But, she haven't complain to me and I can guess maybe (maybe) she likes DSO? The problem is..... it can cleaned my Internet History. Maybe for most people it's convenience (of course). But not for me (you see...I like to keep my Internet History because I'm a really forgetful person).

Sorry...It's been a long time, isn't it? Lately, I have some business that really affect my schedule. When did the last time I posted new post (hey that rhyme)? 6 month? 7month ago? (I'm really a forgetful person)...Right....enough with the rambling. Now moving on to my diary

After watched Hakuouki anime, I have this urge to buy the game version and unfortunately I can't read Kanji/Japanese at all (T.T) (the game is in Japanese Language).

If you just watch the anime without play the game I'm pretty sure you will completely confuse with the story. The story is revolve around a girl named Yukimura Chizuru (in the game, we can change the name) Btw. Here a little review:

Yukimura Chizuru, is the daughter of a doctor who works in Edo. The father leaves Edo to work as a volunteer doctor and moves to Kyoto without his daughter. As time passes by, Chizuru starts worrying about losing contact with her father, so she decides to go to Kyoto in search of him. She disguised herself as a boy and came alone to Kyoto. While there, she witnesses a fight between Rasetsu and the Shinsengumi. Taking her into custody, the Shinsengumi debates on what to do with Chizuru when they discover that she is the daughter of the doctor they are also looking for. The Shinsengumi then takes Chizuru along on their search after the missing doctor. Yukimura Chizuru has come to Kyoto looking for her father, a doctor who has gone missing. While there, she witnesses a fight between Rasetsu and the Shinsengumi. Taking her into custody, the Shinsengumi debates on what to do with Chizuru when they discover that she is the daughter of the doctor they are also looking for. The Shinsengumi then takes Chizuru along on their search after the missing doctor, from adventures to adventures.

I'm totally falling in love with the opening of this Anime (^.^)

Dew Prism, originally a PlayStation title from 2000, is better known as Threads of Fate in the West. Square Enix producer and twitter addict Shinji Hashimoto announce (for Japan) after collecting opinions from fans in Japan, Square Enix decided their next digital re-release will be Threads of Fate. That is, next after Final Fantasy IX which Japan gets on May 20, but no release date has been given for the English PSN archives yet.

Threads of Fate has two playable characters, shapeshifting Rue and selfish Princess Mint. Rue and Mint cross paths in the story, but each of them has their own tale and reason why they are seeking a legendary relic.

I hope this isn't another 'fake' announcement, but..... this is coming from Square Enix producer himself......(-_-) uhhmmmm.

Summary: Sotoba is a small, quiet village where life has always been peaceful. Natsuno Yuuki, who moved from the city, hates it. However, recently a strange rash of mysterious deaths has begun to torment the village, and an epidemic is suspected. As various investigations continue, the truth behind the deaths becomes clear. The town is being attacked by vampires.

An anime adaptation to Ono Fuyumi (Story) and Fujisaki Ryu’s (Art) horror manga series "Shiki" has been green-lit for production — this according to the official site. Aniplex will be the production company behind the project.

Spoiler Bleach 409

Yosh!!! this is the spoiler for Bleach chapter 409>> Ichigo enter his spirit world and some hooded guy greet him (very "polite" indeed -_-).Ichigo asks the guy who he is.

Even though the hooded guy is his benefactor for teaching him how to breathe and while he's telling him this eloquently, he removes the Tensa Zangetsu.

A young man's face (he's cool ^.^) wearing the Bankai release says, "If you didn't understand since the beginning, that's simply overdoing it," while he swoops down for an attack on Ichigo.

Ichigo, while stopping his sword, asks, "Are you Zangetsu?!". "No", answers the boy, "I'm [Tensa Zangetsu]", he says, introducing himself.

Isshin, who said "This Zangetsu's going to be violent" while confirming Ichigo's progress, "My (en?)Getsu was just like that, murmurs "They don't teach these skills to us, but you'll know soon enough why".

"This time, I don't have a reason to fight, but I just wanted to ask you" Ichigo tells Zangetsu as if in rebuke, "what the final form of Tensa Zangetsu is", but once again, Zangetsu attacks him.

Ichigo says, "What the hell are you doin", but he answers, "I don't have a reason to teach you that." Ichigo replys, "I have to protect Karakura town, that's why I have no choice!"

"Do you know what it is that you really want to protect?" asks Zangetsu while he throws him into a building.

"You misunderstand, there's nothing that you want to protect that I don't want to protect" continues Ichigo.

Karakura town, an awake person is pacing to and fro (Riemann?).

The composition of the panel is that he sees Aizen, then I don't know but somehow, with one word, Aizen passes by the guy's side.

And then the guy's entire left side disappears and he crumbles over.

Aizen explains that, "Any human who can't perceive my reiatsu, won't be able to withstand the spiritual pressure I create."

And because of this, along the road that Aizen walked, there's a countless number of corpses strewn about.

Aizen sees a person before him, and mentions to Gin, "That awakened child over there, I remember from Ulquiorra's eyeball, it's Kurosaki Ichigo's nakama" and then it shows Tatsuki. To be continued.

Toxoplasmosis

In HIV disease, several different infections can cause a variety of conditions that result in cognitive problems. One of these brain diseases is toxoplasmosis, or more specifically Toxoplasma encephalitis. Although about 1 in 5 Americans may be infected with the parasite that causes toxoplasmosis, very few will develop the disease. However, people with weakened immune systems and pregnant women are at a higher risk for this serious illness.

What is toxo?

Toxoplasmosis, or toxo, is the disease caused by the infection with a parasite called Toxoplasma gondii. The disease most often affects the brain, but it can also affect other parts of the body like the lungs or eyes. Toxo is rare in people with healthy immune systems (CD4s above 200) that keep the parasite from causing disease. Toxo usually occurs in people with low CD4 counts below 200, though it most often appears when CD4s go below 50.

While initial infection with the parasite may cause disease in some people, toxo most often results from the reactivation of an earlier infection. However, if severe enough, both initial infection and reactivated disease can cause damage to the brain, eyes or other organs.

How is toxo spread?

The parasite is commonly found in cats and birds as well as in raw, rare and undercooked meats like beef, pork, lamb and venison. House pets are often pointed to as carriers, but domestic cats and birds that are allowed outside and back in are more likely to carry the parasite. You can put yourself at high risk for toxo by handling kitty litter with cat stool or bird droppings, though toxo is not infectious in fresh stool. It takes several days for its eggs to hatch while inside cat or bird feces. You cannot get toxo from person-to-person contact; however, a woman can pass toxo onto her newborn.

What are the symptoms?

The symptoms of initial infection may be similar to those of the flu: body aches, fever and swollen glands. Because of this, many are never aware they’ve been infected with the parasite.

During active disease the most common symptoms are cognitive ones, such as headache, confusion, muscle weakness or lack of coordination, along with fever. If toxo develops without treatment, then changed behavior, seizures, stupor and coma can ensue. Symptoms of eye disease can include blurry vision, pain, redness and tearing up.

How is toxo diagnosed?

A blood test will check for antibodies to toxo, and it should be performed for anyone who recently found out they’re HIV-positive. For those who are negative, the rate of active disease is low. For those who are positive, it does not mean that there’s active disease. However, an MRI or CT scan should be performed to check for lesions on the brain. Your doctor may order a PET or SPECT scanning test to help tell toxo apart from other brain infections. A brain biopsy would be ordered only if the symptoms don’t improve within the first week or two on treatment. Occasionally a biopsy may be used to find toxo in other tissues like the lungs.

How to treat toxo?

Except for pregnant women, healthy people with initial infection may not need to be treated. Their symptoms usually go away within a few weeks or months. However, for severe initial infection, for reactivated disease and for pregnant women and people with weaker immune systems, 3 drugs are normally used for 4 to 6 weeks: pyrimethamine (anti-malarial drug for the toxo), sulfadiazine (an antibiotic) and leucovorin (to replace lost folic acid and reduce possible anemia).

During the first 6 weeks of treatment, anti-convulsants should be given only to people who have a history of seizures. They shouldn’t be routinely given to everyone.

Some people find it difficult to take the many pills each day. Others may be able to take clindamycin if they can’t tolerate sulfadiazine. To help reduce pill burden several other regimens are possible, some of which are based in results from randomized studies while others are suggested from individual cases or small cohorts of people with toxo. Consult an experienced doctor and study data to make informed treatment decisions.

After successful treatment, some people may need to continue taking drugs for “maintenance” therapy to help prevent the toxo from coming back. However, you can stop maintenance therapy once your CD4 count stays above 200 for more than 6 months while on potent HIV therapy. The condition called IRIS has not been conclusively reported with toxoplasmosis.

How to prevent exposure to toxo?

Safe food handling and better hygiene are two significant ways to help prevent toxo. Wash your meats, fruits and vegetables well before eating. Cook meats to an inside temperature of 165°F. If you eat someone else’s food, make sure all pink is gone inside to ensure it’s been fully cooked.

When handling house cats or pet birds or when gardening, use gloves and/or wash your hands well after each handling. Feed your cats only canned or dried food and refrain from handling stray cats. Consider having someone else clean the litter box or bird cage every day. Keep your pet cat or bird inside at all times to greatly reduce the risk of them becoming carriers of the parasite.

How to prevent disease?

Using drugs to prevent toxo should be started before a person’s CD4 count goes below 100. However, some drugs used to treat PCP are also effective against toxo. And since these drugs are normally started for PCP before CD4s fall below 200, then there may not be a need to start other meds to specifically prevent toxo.

Daily dose of TMP-SMX is normally used, though some people cannot tolerate it. In this case, other regimens are available.

Should your CD4 count go above 200 for more than 3 months while on potent HIV therapy, you can safely stop preventive toxo therapy. In studies, people who were on protease inhibitors and stopped preventive therapy at more than 300 CD4s were more likely to prevent toxo from recurring.

Who is at risk for toxo?

Newborns of women who became infected with toxo during pregnancy are at risk for the infection and should be tested at birth. People with weakened immune systems are at risk as well, usually below 200 CD4s but most often at levels below 50. As well, people who handle birds or cats infected with toxo or who eat raw or undercooked meats are at higher risk for the parasite.

Special considerations for pregnant women

If you’re pregnant, you should be screened for toxo. For women who are positive for toxo before pregnancy, it’s unlikely you’ll pass it onto your baby. If you’re negative, then following some prevention guidelines can help keep you from becoming infected.

Although there may be some situations where a particular drug shouldn’t be used, treating toxo in pregnant women is generally the same for non-pregnant adults. However, it’s strongly suggested that an experienced doctor in maternal medicine should be consulted. Newborns of women with toxo should be checked for infection.

The Fourth Bleach Movie

The fourth Bleach movie has been announced, courtesy of the 1/14 issue of Weekly Shonen Jump. The only information we have on it so far is that it will be in theaters sometime during winter 2010, and will deal with "full" or "perfect" Hollow-Ichigo, depending on which translation you favor.

The interesting thing about this is that the topic doesn't lend itself to becoming a side-story, which is what the Bleach movies have been thus far. Typically, movies in major franchises like this seem to take place in an alternate universe from the television series- and while hard-core fans can generally tell you where in the series' continuity the movies supposedly fit, it never really matters. Since the nature of Ichigo's Hollow form is critically important to the overall Bleach storyline, I don't see how they could develop it in a movie and then fail to acknowledge the events of the movie in the series. I suppose they could have Ichigo do something as a Hollow and then forget all about it by the end of the movie, or use some other cop-out, but I'd like to give the writers the benefit of the doubt. Come to think of it, they have been rather ambitious with the filler storylines in Bleach lately (by which I mean, some of them have a point), so maybe this is just a continuation of that trend.

I haven't really been interested in the storyline since they were using Ichirin no Hana as the opening theme, but I do find Ichigo's Hollow form interesting; not just because the character can kick ass more effectively as a Hollow (because you know, clearly what everyone on Bleach needs is to be powered up some more), but because the character seems to hold the answers to how the whole Human/Shinigami/Hollow/etc. system works in Bleach- provided that Kubo actually has an answer. Again, I like to give people the benefit of the doubt.

Atashin'chi Manga Made into 3D Theatrical Anime

A 3D theatrical anime adaptation of Eiko Kera's ATASHIn'CHI comedy manga will open in Japan on November 13. The manga follows the everyday life of a high school girl named Mikan and her family — her homemaker mother (pictured at right), her salaryman father, and her younger brother Yuzuhiko.
The manga has been running in the Sunday edition of the Yomiuri Shimbun paper since 1994, and there are 9.9 million copies of the 15 currently compiled book volumes. The manga already inspired a television anime series (pictured at left) that aired from 2002 to September of 2009. The upcoming 40-minute film is actually the second ATASHIn'CHI film, since a traditionally animated ATASHIn'CHI film premiered in 2003.

Shonen manga in iPhone !!

In Japan, Shogakukan has released an iPhone application that allows you to download popular Shounen Sunday titles on your iPhone with an iPad version in the works! However, their price range needs a SEVERE amount of tweaking.

They're thinking 450 yen is appropriate for titles like "Case Closed" (otherwise known as "Detective Conan"),"Urusei Yatsura", "Major" and "Ushio to Tora." These titles can all be found at used book stores for 100 yen a volume or perhaps even less through set packs and can be bought new for 440 yen or less.

Say, if a popular series you read was available, what would be your limit?

Manga with Voice

Once again Flex-comix.jp do it! They invented a manga that can actually have a voice (it's manga not anime). How can they do that? Flex Comix presents a new addition to manga called +Voice (Plus Voice). Here's what it does: You click on a dialog bubble from their online reader and the character reads out that bubble!
The voice actresses for their sample manga do a very good job! The plus side to this is, you don't have to listen to the characters you don't want to! Also, for translators that weren't sure *who* was saying what by having the voice added there's no mistaking it! Now if only more manga can have this..

I think it's a great idea, and probably a good lessons for translators or people who want to learn Japanese.

Yey!! Today Mangafox realese scanlated 'Kiben Gakuha Yotsuya Senpai no Kaidan' manga chapter 10 (in english). Long life horror manga!!!!!!

In chapter 10 they introduce a new character. I get the felling 'the new character' will become the main villain. 'The main character/protagonist' AKA Yotsuya-senpai is already creepy enough. Why the mangaka bother to put another disturbing character?

I read another great manga, 'Hokenshitsu no Shinigami'. I like it (of course, from all the manga that I already read.... I like 90% of it). Beware! It's not a shinigami story like Bleach or like Death Note.

Summary:

Hadesu Sensei is no ordinary middle school nurse. In fact, many students believe he is a shinigami. His excessive friendliness and eagerness to win his students' affection does little to offset his terrifying appearance. But, fortunately for this middle school, Hadesu Sensei is an expert at extracting "byouma", demons of disease, from possessed students!

A one-shot preceded the serialization. It was published in the Akamaru of Spring 09

My interest with Threads of Fate/Dewprism was back yesterday. I made it last night and decide to put it on my deviantART. It's a fanart character from Dewprism, Mint.
